The Inside Word

Be careful of what you say!
My father, Doug, was a successful politician for 27 years. When I entered Federal Parliament in 1996, he gave me one piece of advice: ‘Son, keep your mouth shut. More people talk their way out of parliament than talk their way in.’
Mark Twain put it more bluntly: ‘It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt.’
No such economy of speech from the 47th President of the United States of America during the first 3 weeks of his second term in office.
In Donald Trump’s own words, he’s on a mission to upturn and reshape his country’s government, institutions and trading partners … one executive order after another.
President Trump is on a roll. He’s surprised friends and foes by announcing changes including overhauling the immigration system; weakening DEI policies; pardoning the January 6 rioters; purging the federal bureaucracy; announcing tariffs on Mexico, Canada and China; launching a meme crypto coin; and suggesting the USA takes over Greenland and the Panama Canal.
Amongst the most recent whirlwind of policy decrees, tweets and posts is Trump’s contentious declaration that America will take over Gaza, resettle more than 2 million Palestinians and build a new Rivera. This is taking leadership to a new level. High or low? You be the judge.
In business, like in politics, often saying less is more. At The SAS Group, it’s our business to guide our clients to stay on message to ensure their voices are heard, understood and respected … without the headlines and hashtags, although we can do that too!
