The SAS Group will provide updates on the COVID-19 outbreak in Australia, including updates on Government and Department of Health announcements, travel and flight bans, and general media.

In a press conference today, Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced the National Cabinet will consider easing strict shut down measures from 8 May. The Morrison Government has announced a suite of short online courses at leading universities at a heavily discounted cost to upskill Australians. 

The Queensland Government has announced the annual Queensland Training Awards will still go ahead this year but as virtual events.

In New South Wales, the Government has announced heat maps which pinpoint COVID-19 cases by postcode, and a $250 million cleaning stimulus package to help stop the spread of COVID-19.

The Government of Western Australia will establish four more collection centres for COVID-19 testing which are set to open Monday 4 May.

The Northern Territory Government yesterday released the Territory’s Roadmap to the New Normal, and in South Australia, the Marshall Government’s No Jab, No Play policy passed in Parliament last night.

MEDIA STATEMENT: Coronavirus: Scott Morrison gives update

Australians have been so successful flattening the coronavirus curve that restrictions will start being eased next week, Prime Minister Scott Morrison has revealed.

The Prime Minister said the National Cabinet of state and territory leaders had agreed to consider easing strict shut down measures from May 8 - a week earlier than was originally planned when the committee agreed to wait a month before moving any restrictions.

Australians who want to learn new skills to improve their job prospects can now apply to study short online courses at our leading universities at a heavily discounted cost.

The Morrison Government has facilitated the roll out of a suite of six-month, online courses focussing on areas of national priority such as nursing, teaching, counselling, IT and allied health as part of its Higher Education Relief Package.

MEDIA STATEMENT: New COVID-19 heat maps to protect communities
New South Wales Government

In an Australian first, heat maps pinpointing COVID-19 cases by postcode will now show how many people have recovered from the virus, the estimated number of active local cases and number of tests completed.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian said the de-identified NSW Health data would help inform the community about COVID-19 testing and recovery rates across the state.

The annual Queensland Training Awards will go ahead in 2020, moving entirely online for the first time in the event’s 59-year history.

Minister for Training and Skills Development Shannon Fentiman today said nominations will be extended until the end of June with the regional and state winners announced online.

MEDIA STATEMENT: Four more collection centres for COVID-19 testing to be established
Government of Western Australia

Four new private COVID-19 collection centres are set to open on Monday May 4, with new South-West sites to be established in Busselton and South Bunbury, and two new metropolitan sites for Myaree and Osborne Park.

The McGowan Government is working with Clinipath to establish the four new drive-through clinics, which will complement the 11 other private testing sites announced earlier this month, further expanding Western Australia's testing capabilities.

Legislation continuing the roll out of the Marshall Government’s No Jab, No Play policy passed State Parliament last night.

The Marshall Government will now exclude children up to the age of six from early learning services who have not been fully vaccinated from early August.

MEDIA STATEMENT: $250 million cleaning stimulus package to help stop the spread of COVID-19

The new stimulus package will support 550 new and redeployed cleaning businesses to boost the defence against COVID-19 (coronavirus).

The $250 million cleaners’ package will improve the cleaning of public facilities including NSW transport, schools and TAFE while supporting an additional 3000 full-time cleaners by the end of June 2020.
