The SAS Group will provide daily updates on the COVID-19 outbreak in Australia, including updates on Government and Department of Health announcements, travel and flight bans, and general media.

The new voluntary coronavirus app, COVIDSafe, was launched by the Federal Government today as an important public health initiative that will keep the community safe from further spread of the virus. Federal Government today announced an additional $27 million funding for more support for child care services and children, and the Prime Minister confirmed the 1.5 metre social distancing requirement was not required for schools.

The Queensland Government has announced restrictions are set to ease as COVID-19 recoveries increase, and have introduced fines for people who deliberately cough, sneeze or spit on public officials and workers. National parks are also set to partially re-open.

In the Northern Territory the Government has announced it will begin re-opening some parts from noon Friday 1 May.

The Government of Western Australia announced yesterday that regular public transport services will return, and the restrictions will ease due to WA’s COVID-19 progress.

MEDIA STATEMENT: Qld COVID-19 – Sunday April 26 – Restrictions to ease as recoveries increase

Some restrictions will be eased and some national parks will partially re-open as three new cases are confirmed along with a big increase in the proportion of recovered cases.

There are now 98 active cases with 926 recoveries and six deaths for a total of 1030.

MEDIA STATEMENT: Updated advice on social distancing in school
Federal Government

Australian students took another step back to the classroom today with the National Cabinet providing updated advice on the requirements for social distancing at schools.

National Cabinet agreed the 1.5 metre social distancing requirement and four square metre rule for venues was "not appropriate and not required" for schools, the Prime Minister has said.

MEDIA STATEMENT: Queensland introduces big fines for coughing on essential workers
Queensland Government

People who deliberately cough, sneeze or spit on public officials and workers including shop assistants could be fined up to $13,345. under a new COVID-19 Public Health Direction.

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said she was acting to protect workers serving Queenslanders throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

MEDIA STATEMENT: Partial re-opening of some National Parks
Queensland Government

The Palaszczuk Government today announced that some popular areas in National Parks in Queensland will re-open next Saturday, following a relaxation in guidelines from the Chief Health Officer.

Minister for Environment and the Great Barrier Reef Leeanne Enoch said public health and safety is the most important thing and with the easing of restrictions, people will have some greater freedom to visit parks and forests to exercise and look after their mental health.

MEDIA STATEMENT: More support for child care services and children
Federal Government

The Morrison Government will provide an additional $27 million in grants of up to $10,000 to child care services to ensure they can continue providing care to the children of essential workers.

The new child care system was implemented to ensure children of essential workers have continued access to child care, and the planned review of the Early Childhood Education and Care Relief Package will prioritise ensuring those children do have access to care.

MEDIA STATEMENT: Return of regular public transport services brought forward
Government of Western Australia

The McGowan Government is continuing to bring back public transport services that were reduced due to the coronavirus pandemic.

From Wednesday April 29, bus services will resume their normal timetabling - this includes all school services.

Trains will continue in the current pattern - an enhanced Saturday timetable, with additional peak period services and earlier services on most lines on weekdays - until going back to normal operations on Monday May 4.

MEDIA STATEMENT: Cautious easing of restrictions thanks to WA’s COVID-19 progress

Premier Mark McGowan and Health Minister Roger Cook have announced some of Western Australia's stage 3 restrictions will be relaxed effective Monday, 27 April 2020 to ensure families and friends can stay connected during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The changes, based on health advice, will mean indoor and outdoor non-work gatherings will be relaxed to enable for up to 10 persons, lifted from the two person only limit, following continued low number of new cases and the encouraging response to COVID-19 in WA.
