The Queensland Government announced today that the state’s Small Business Commissioner will be appointed to help small businesses recover, and the Appropriation (COVID-19) Bill 2020 has been passed by Parliament and will provide additional funding to protect Queenslander’s during the pandemic. The Government has also ramped up support for international students stranded in Queensland, and has announced legal practitioners will be able to use video conferencing technology to facilitate legal transactions during the crisis.

The Victorian Government announced today that they’re backing agriculture businesses during the coronavirus, and more funding to support families and children. The Government will also deliver additional devices and internet dongles to students for remote learning.

In South Australia, the Government today advised families that it is safe to send children to school when Term 2 begins, and announced a school and preschool maintenance package to deliver economic stimulus.

MEDIA STATEMENT: Commissioner to help Queensland small business recover

A Queensland Small Business Commissioner will be appointed to give small businesses a single point of contact for leasing disputes during recovery from the impact of COVID-19.

Minister for Employment and Small Business Shannon Fentiman said the new Small Business Commissioner will be appointed until the end of 2020 to provide much-needed dispute resolution support during this crucial time.

MEDIA STATEMENT: Palaszczuk Government delivers support for health, jobs and business
Queensland Government

Emergency measures to support Queenslanders, the business community and the industries which will deliver the State back to economic prosperity have been passed by Parliament.

Deputy Premier and Treasurer Jackie Trad said the Appropriation (COVID-19) Bill 2020 provides additional funding of more than $4 billion over two years to protect Queensland during the coronavirus pandemic.

South Australia’s Chief Public Health Officer, Professor Nicola Spurrier, has written to parents and school staff across the state overnight, encouraging them to send their children to school or preschool when Term 2 begins next week.

MEDIA STATEMENT: School and preschool maintenance package to deliver local economic stimulus

Almost 500 schools and preschools in South Australia will receive grants to undertake priority maintenance work, as part of a $32 million State Government economic stimulus package to be rolled out this year.

The investment will see school and preschool sites across the state engage local tradespeople to undertake much needed maintenance work, supporting jobs and businesses in the wake of the coronavirus.

MEDIA STATEMENT: Queensland Government ramps up support for visiting students

The Palaszczuk Government has doubled efforts to support international students stranded in Queensland as a result of COVID-19. 

From today, students aged over 18 will be able to connect with professional support counsellors through a homegrown counselling service. A digital platform will link case workers with students to guide them through mental health, visa, crisis accommodation and other essential needs.

MEDIA STATEMENT: Video conferencing to facilitate legal transactions in era of social distancing
Queensland Government

Queensland legal practitioners will be able to use video conferencing technology to conduct a range of transactions that usually require face to face meetings, as coronavirus social distancing requirements remain in place.

Attorney-General and Minister for Justice said laws passed in State Parliament allow for more flexible arrangements to conduct important and pressing legal transactions.

MEDIA STATEMENT: More support to keep families and children safe
Victorian Government

Foster and kinship carers will receive a one-off $600 payment for every child they care for, as part of a package of support from the Victorian Government for some of our state’s most in-need children and families.

Minister for Child Protection Luke Donnellan today announced an additional $77.5 million over the next two years to support some of Victoria’s most at-risk children by bolstering the staff, resources and services available to them.

MEDIA STATEMENT: Extra devices and internet delivered for remote learning

An additional 21,000 internet dongles will be delivered to Victorian students thanks to an agreement between the Victorian Government and Telstra.

Minister for Education James Merlino announced an extra 21,000 internet dongles will be available to help meet the significant demand for internet access from Victorian students now they have moved to remote and flexible learning.
