 The SAS Group will provide daily updates on the COVID-19 outbreak in Australia, including updates on Government and Department of Health announcements, travel and flight bans, and general media.

The state governments made a number of announcements today on education. The New South Wales Government announced that students will gradually transition back to the classroom in Term 2, and the Government of South Australia announced a new $13.8 million support package for the international education sector.

In Victoria, the Government has implemented temporary emergency measures to manage the crisis and have announced its partnership with ABC to support students learning from home.

The Department of Health released more transcripts for the Minister for Health’s interviews on COVID-19.

MEDIA STATEMENT: NSW students to transition back to the classroom in Term 2
New South Wales Government

NSW school students will gradually transition back to the classroom during Term 2 as the Government continues to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian and Minister for Education and Early Childhood Learning Sarah Mitchell outlined the plan for students attending NSW public schools to progressively return to face-to-face learning in week three of Term 2.

MEDIA STATEMENT: $13.8m for SA’s international education sector
Government of South Australia

The Marshall Liberal Government has today announced a new $13.8 million support package for South Australia’s international education sector in a bid to bolster the industry and save local jobs, in the wake of the coronavirus crisis.

The funding, which is part of the Community and Jobs Support Fund, is designed to provide an economic boost to the international education sector which has suffered as a result of coronavirus restrictions.

MEDIA STATEMENT: Temporary emergency measures to manage coronavirus crisis
Victorian Government

The Victorian Government will implement a range of temporary emergency measures to support Victorians and continue delivering the services we all rely on through the unprecedented challenges of the coronavirus crisis.

The COVID-19 Omnibus (Emergency Measures) Bill 2020 will be introduced to Parliament on Thursday and sets out a range of temporary changes to protect tenants and injured workers and allow vital government functions to continue operating in line with social distancing and other requirements advised by the Chief Health Officer.

MEDIA STATEMENT: Partnership with ABC to support learning from home
Victorian Government

Primary school students now have access to interactive learning resources to support their remote and flexible learning thanks to a partnership between the Victorian Government and the ABC.

Minister for Education James Merlino announced this week that the first set of 15 learning activities connected to educational programs are screening on ABC ME (20-24 April) and have been added to the Victorian Government’s new Learning from Home website.
