The Federal Government launched the improved My Skills website which will now focus on online training for Australians to upskill during the pandemic.

The New South Wales Government today announced licence holders in the trades and construction sectors will not have to pay up to $50 million worth of licence fees, and patients can now receive COVID-19 results via text message.

In South Australia, small business and not-for-profit impacted by COVID-19 restrictions have registered for the Government’s $10,000 emergency grants.

The Victoria State Government announced it will bring urgent legislation to the parliament to support tenants and landlords during the pandemic, and Victorian Parliament will be recalled two weeks early for a one-day emergency sitting on 23 April 2020.

MEDIA STATEMENT: Slashed licence fees a big win for business

New South Wales Government

Up to 200,000 licence holders operating across the trades and construction sectors will not have to pay up to $50 million worth of licence fees, thanks to the NSW Government.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian, Minister for Customer Service Victor Dominello and Minister for Finance and Small Business Damien Tudehope said the licence fee waivers were a crucial part of the NSW Government’s first economic stimulus package.

MEDIA STATEMENT: 11,300 small businesses register for $10,000 emergency grants
South Australia Government

South Australian small businesses and not-for-profits impacted by COVID-19 restrictions have rushed to register for the Marshall Liberal Government’s $10,000 cash grants, with more than 11,300 employers already expressing their interest on-line for the emergency support payment.

The major investment – funded from the State Government’s $650m Jobs Rescue Package – will assist an estimated 19,000 small businesses and not-for-profits (including eligible sporting and community organisations) from gyms, hairdressers and beauty and nail salons to restaurants, cafes and cellar doors, at a total cost of approximately $190m.

MEDIA STATEMENT: upporting tenants and landlords during coronavirus
Victoria State Government

The Victorian Government will bring urgent legislation to the Parliament in line with decisions of the National Cabinet to support tenants and landlords through the coronavirus pandemic by reforming residential and commercial tenancy laws.

These include introducing a temporary ban on evictions, pausing rental increases for six months, and providing land tax relief for landlords and rent relief for tenants experiencing financial hardship as part of a plan to help Victorian families and businesses get to the other side of this unprecedented crisis.

MEDIA STATEMENT: Emergency sitting of the Victorian Parliament next week

The Victorian Parliament will be recalled two weeks early for a one-day emergency sitting on Thursday 23 April 2020 to pass vital legislation to assist the ongoing response to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Victorian Government is drafting legislation to address issues such as the tenancy reforms agreed to by the National Cabinet, and the Parliament will also be asked to pass urgent appropriation bills which will ensure our healthcare workers and other vital public sector staff continue to be paid.

All members of parliament will be offered detailed briefings on the legislation before it is introduced to the Parliament and Question Time will take place in both houses.

MEDIA STATEMENT: SMS delivers faster COVID-19 results in NSW
New South Wales Government

In an NSW first, patients can opt-in to receive their COVID-19 pathology results via text message.

NSW Health Pathology’s secure automated SMS solution will see the average notification period for results halved, plus ease the pressure on busy hospital and laboratory staff.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian said more than 142,000 people had been tested and cleared, making it one of the highest testing rates in the world, and helping to stop the spread of the virus.
