The Queensland Government announced today new protections for retail and commercial tenants, and residential tenants and owners. The Government also reminded Queensland small businesses that state government help is available. The Palaszczuk Government has closed further areas in National Parks to keep communities safe this Easter.

The New South Wales Government has announced parents will not have to pay preschool fees for up to six months thanks to a $51 million funding package.

The Department of Health has designed a new 24/7 support service designed to help people through the COVID-19 pandemic, and Minister for Health the Hon. Greg Hunt MP published transcripts for more interviews on coronavirus.

MEDIA STATEMENT: Palaszczuk Government moves to protect retail and commercial tenants
Queensland Government

Commercial and retail tenants will be protected from evictions under a series of measures to protect businesses and jobs unveiled by the Palaszczuk Government.

Deputy Premier and Treasurer Jackie Trad said the measures would be underpinned by $400 million in land tax relief for property owners, which must be passed on to tenants.

MEDIA STATEMENT: COVID-19 survival tips help thousands of Queensland small businesses

Queensland small businesses are being reminded that state government help is available, Employment and Small Business Minister Shannon Fentiman said today.

The Minister said more than 5,000 small businesses had contacted the Queensland Government’s Small Business Hotline for help and assistance with finding out what was available.

MEDIA STATEMENT: More areas in national parks are closed, so stay home this Easter

The Palaszczuk Government today announced the closure of further areas in National Parks including popular swimming holes, summit trails and carparks to help stop the spread of COVID-19 and keep communities safe this Easter.

This follows the closure of National Park campgrounds and popular areas within National Parks last week and the Premier’s announcement yesterday to ban travel to Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island), Moorgumpin (Moreton Island) and K’gari (Fraser Island).

MEDIA STATEMENT: Free preschool in NSW for up to six months
New South Wales Government

Parents in NSW will not have to pay preschool fees for up to six months thanks to a $51 million funding package announced by the NSW Government.

The NSW Government has also committed up to $82 million to support 260 council childcare centres who are not eligible for the JobKeeper payments.

A new 24/7 support service specifically designed to help people through the COVID-19 pandemic is now available free of charge to all Australians.

The Coronavirus Mental Wellbeing Support Service has been developed by Beyond Blue to address the growing mental health impact of the pandemic, including fear about the virus, financial stress, family stress, anxiety and loneliness.

Undone in four days: Why you can’t go out this Easter

Queensland risks undoing weeks of progress in containing the coronavirus if people flout orders to stay at home over Easter. Social distancing and hygiene measures have begun to reduce the COVID-19 infection rate, with Queensland recording just nine new cases yesterday.

Filling up your car or boat, getting ice or bait, grabbing a coffee or food, using a public barbecue or toilets are all activities that increase the risk of spreading COVID-19.
