The Queensland Government has injected almost $5.5 million to boost domestic violence services during the pandemic and has banned the non-essential travel to Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island), Moorgumpin (Moreton Island) and K’gari (Fraser Island).

MEDIA STATEMENT: $5.5m to boost domestic violence services during COVID-19 pandemic
Queensland Government

The Palaszczuk Government is taking urgent action to support domestic and family violence victims with the immediate injection of almost $5.5 million to help manage ananticipated increase in demand for services arising from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said there were serious concerns for victims of domesticand family violence during the coronavirus crisis due to increased financial pressures and social isolation.

MEDIA STATEMENT: Looking after people with existing health conditions during COVID-19
Department of Health

The Australian Government is urging all people with chronic health conditions to not neglect their regular health care and to continue to see their general practitioner or specialist about the management of their conditions.

The Australian Government has expanded Medicare-subsidised telehealth services for all Australians and is providing extra incentives to general practitioners to support continued access to essential primary health services during the COVID-19 pandemic.

MEDIA STATEMENT: Travel to Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island), Moorgumpin (Moreton Island) and K’gari (Fraser Island) restricted
Queensland Government

People are now banned from travelling to Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island), Moorgumpin (Moreton Island) and K’gari (Fraser Island) unless they live there, work there, or are travelling for other permitted purposes.

Under a new directive to be issued today by the Chief Health Office, following consultation with local government, a person who does not live on the island can only travel to these areas for work, to access health care and other services or other permitted purposes including people travelling for compassionate reasons.
