Prime Minister Scott Morrison yesterday announced the responsibility of public service matters has been temporarily transferred from Minister for Health the Hon. Greg Hunt MP to Assistant Minister to the Prime Minister the Hon. Ben Morton MP.

The Queensland Government has announced more support for Queenslanders with disabilities during the pandemic, and more COVID-19 testing for people to fight community spread. The Government yesterday afternoon announced a tax relief of $50 million for Queensland pubs and clubs, and a $17.5 million plan to protect families of health workers.

The New South Wales Government today announced $100 million in support for health workers to fight the virus.

MEDIA STATEMENT: $100m support for health workers to fight COVID-19
NSW Government 

NSW frontline healthcare workers will be provided with free accommodation to protect their loved ones as part of $100 million in extra measures to support frontline staff battling COVID-19. 

The NSW Government is allocating almost $60 million to provide doctors, nurses, paramedics and other hospital and ambulance staff with the option of staying in out-of-home accommodation during the pandemic.

MEDIA STATEMENT: COVID-19 support for Queenslanders with disability
Queensland Government

Queenslanders with disability are being supported through the COVID-19 outbreak, with the Queensland Government and partner organisations working together to ensure vital services remain available and key information is accessible.

Minister for Disability Services Coralee O’Rourke said it was important that people with disability right across the state had support to meet their essential daily needs – such as food and medications.

MEDIA STATEMENT: Testing more people for COVID-19 to fight community spread
Queensland Government

The Queensland Government is expanding testing for COVID-19 to include people with symptoms that cannot be explained in Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Cairns.

Minister for Health and Ambulance Services Steven Miles said testing will be expanded in areas with potential local community transmission.

MEDIA STATEMENT: $17.5 million plan to protect families of health heroes
Queensland Government

Thousands of Queensland’s frontline health workers could be provided free accommodation if they want to self-isolate.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the $17.5 million plan would help health workers protect their families if the COVID-19 pandemic worsens.

MEDIA STATEMENT: $50 million in tax relief for Queensland pubs and clubs
Queensland Government

The Palaszczuk Government has announced extra tax relief worth $50 million for Queensland pubs and clubs grappling with the effects of coronavirus.

Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Yvette D’Ath said from April, the State’s 1,100 pubs and clubs would get a three-month deferral on gaming machine taxes.

MEDIA STATEMENT: Transfer of Ministerial Responsibility
Federal Government

Responsibility for public service matters, including the Australian Public Service Commission (APSC), has been temporarily transferred from the Minister for Health, the Hon. Greg Hunt MP, to the Hon. Ben Morton MP, Assistant Minister to the Prime Minister and Cabinet.

This will allow Minister Hunt to concentrate wholly on the coronavirus response in his Health portfolio.
