The SAS Group will provide daily updates on the COVID-19 outbreak in Australia, including updates on Government and Department of Health announcements, travel and flight bans, and general media.

Since last week’s announcements, the Federal Government has updated coronavirus measures for religious services, Easter holidays, commercial tenancies, childcare & education and local Government, and has also created a new visa extending the stay of critical seasonal workers within the agriculture sector.

The Department of Health has announced a $1.5 million investment to support clinical management of COVID-19, and the Minister for Health published three transcripts for his interviews with various media outlets on the virus. The Department has also announced an immediate response plan to ensure the well-being of Australians with disabilities are considered during the pandemic.

In general news, the RNA Chief Executive announced today that this year’s Ekka has been cancelled due to COVID-19.

MEDIA STATEMENT: $1.5 million to support clinical management of COVID-19
Department of Health

The Australian Government are investing $1.5 million to support guidance for clinicians to ensure they are given the best possible advice on managing COVID-19 patients.

The National COVID-19 Clinical Evidence Taskforce will receive $1.5 million from the Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) to deliver ‘living guidelines’ on the clinical management of patients with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 infection across primary, acute and critical care settings.

MEDIA STATEMENT: New visa to support Australian farmers
Federal Government

The Morrison Government has created a new visa extending the stay of critical seasonal workers to ensure the agricultural sector has the labour force it needs.

Seasonal Worker Programme and Pacific Labour Scheme workers will have visa conditions relaxed and be given an option to extend their stay for up to one year.

The Government is committed to ensuring the well-being of Australians with disability are considered as the coronavirus pandemic unfolds.

As such, an advisory group has been established by the Morrison Government to guide development and implementation of a response plan focusing on the unique health needs of people with disability during the coronavirus pandemic.
