Corporate members attending this week’s Rural Press Club of Queensland’s Annual Program Launch were treated to rare insight from the major political parties as they prepare to win the hearts and minds of Queenslanders in the lead up to the State Election later this year.

Lincoln Folo, Liberal National Party Campaign Director and Zac Beers, Assistant State Secretary, Australian Labor Party - Queensland were subjected to intense questioning on stage by The Courier Mail’s State Political Editor, Jessica Marszalek, during lunch at The Brisbane Club.

Of particular interest to the Rural Press Club’s audience were regional issues and how they are likely to unfold during the state election campaign.  Both Lincoln and Zac, key players in the upcoming election, operate very much behind the scenes, so it was the only opportunity for business and industry leaders to hear from and question these political heavyweights.  And they didn’t disappoint the audience, providing respectful responses but with palpable underlying tension.

In thanking the Rural Press Club’s 50 corporate members and sponsors for their ongoing support of the not-for-profit organisation, President Stacey Wordsworth reflected on the Club’s record-breaking year in 2019.  More than 2,660 people attended events, from breakfasts to lunches, featuring a vast range of speakers from Bundaberg-born billionaires to the Deputy Prime Minister and rural industry leaders.

Funds raised from these events are invested by the Club in development programs for rural journalists and an annual awards program to support the profession more broadly.

The SAS Group works in partnership with the Rural Press Club for event and membership management, sponsorship, marketing and administration.  There are still sponsorship opportunities available for 2020, please contact the SAS Group for more details.

With the State election to be held on Saturday 31 October, now is the time to finalise your election strategy and start executing plans.  SAS Group consultants are available to help make sure your organisation is well-positioned to influence relevant policy decisions and capitalise on emerging opportunities.
