Scott Morrison has been re-elected as Prime Minister of Australia and is likely to form majority government following the Coalition’s surprise victory on Saturday night.

With five seats still in doubt, the Coalition is expected to finish with 77 seats to Labor’s 68; with the remaining 6 seats held by the cross bench.
 
As predicted, Queensland was a key deciding factor in this election with the Liberal National Party holding crucial seats such as Dickson, Forde and Flynn while picking up Herbert and Longman.
 
The Labor Party start the process to decided on a new leader in the coming days following Bill Shorten’s resignation announced during his concession speech on Saturday evening. The likely contenders include Anthony Albanese, Chris Bowen and Jim Chalmers.
 
Voting will continue in Bass, Chisholm, Cowan, Lilley and Macquarie with the final seat count expected to be known over the next few days.
