Brisbane-based strategic communications firm the SAS Group, founded by the late Hon Con Sciacca AO, has today welcomed to its ranks Mr Sciacca’s long time friend and protégé, former Labor MP and federal front bencher, the Hon Bernie Ripoll.
The much-loved former Veterans Affairs Minister, Mr Sciacca, passed away a fortnight ago after a lengthy battle with cancer, however despite his illness, had remained steadfastly determined to secure his trusted friend and former Labor colleague to the firm he co-founded in 2009.
SAS Group CEO Peter Costantini said Mr Ripoll’s federal political experience and strong skill set in assisting communities and businesses to create jobs, innovate and deal with the complex nature of a fast-moving digital economy, would be a valuable addition.
“This has been a long time in the making for us and for Con, and we’re thrilled to welcome Mr Ripoll to the SAS Group,” Mr Costantini said.
Mr Ripoll said it was an honour to have this opportunity.
“Con was one of my great friends and a most influential person in my political career, so I want to acknowledge his contribution and pay tribute to his legacy,” Mr Ripoll said.
The former Member for Oxley, who operated his own consultancy business since leaving Federal Parliament in 2016 and currently sits on a number of Boards, said the SAS Group was a natural progression.
“I’ve learned many things representing my community and Australia in varied roles in the Parliament, but one thing remains true – that change is inevitable and constant, so communities and businesses need to keep pace, and that requires good advice and good help.”
Mr Ripoll came to prominence through his decade-long campaign as the Member for Oxley for the upgrade of the Ipswich Motorway and extensive work in the financial services sector, leading to the Future of Financial Reforms (FoFA).
He remains highly engaged in the sector and the community.
“I look forward to working with the excellent team at SAS Group including the Hon Larry Anthony, Peter Costantini and Malcolm Cole.”
