Hon Larry AnthonyDirector Larry was first elected as a member of the Australian Parliament in 1996 and retained the seat of Richmond in New South Wales until 2004. He served with Prime Minister John Howard holding the senior roles of Minister for Children and Youth Affairs and the Minister for Community Services. He also served as the Parliamentary Secretary for Trade under the leadership of Tim Fischer. Larry is the third generation Anthony family member in the Australian Parliament – the only family in Australian history where each elected member served as Ministers of the Crown. Continuing the tradition of leadership, Larry is the current Senior Vice President of the National Party of Australia and is on the governing body of the New South Wales Nationals. In his portfolio responsibilities, Larry enjoyed extensive success in delivering solutions in some of the more challenging areas of social security and community service. Larry was the longest serving Minister responsible for Centrelink with an annual budget of over $60 billion. He was also widely regarded for his achievements in driving programs and networks that supported Australia’s export market development and international trade. Throughout his career, Larry has held a strong interest in the operation of financial and investment markets. In Parliament, he served as a member of the House of Representatives’ Standing Committees on Financial Institutions, Public Administration, and Corporations and Securities. Prior to entering Parliament, Larry was a stockbroker and investment banker with Potter Warburg and Merrill Lynch. He was formerly licensed to trade on the New York Stock Exchange and Chicago Mercantile Commodities Exchange. Holding with the three generation family tradition, Larry has a long and distinguished association with Australia’s agriculture industries. Larry is a professional company director with a strong interest in the information technology, finance, media and human services sectors. Larry holds a Bachelor of Commerce and a Diploma of Applied Finance and Investment, and is a Fellow of both the Australian Institute of Company Directors and the Financial Services Institute of Australia. Supporting the development and promotion of youth achievement in Australia and globally, Larry is the Chairman of the Duke of Edinburgh Awards in Australia and Deputy Chairman of the international Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards organisation. |
